I received a newsletter from a guy who I have come to know through How to Sell Your Act and really wanted to share it with you.

The title of the email was “British Escapologist hangs from helicopter over water in most daring stunt yet”...Obviously this immediately caught my attention so I opened the email to read more.

When I opened the email, it was a fully branded HTML email, with a photo of Rob hanging upside down, on a rope in a straight jacket, dangling from a helicopter! The email told the story of the stunt, had a YouTube link and finished with a simple but effective call to action telling people to get in touch to book his act.

Why do I like this email so much?

  • Rob was due to perform at a local busking festival, and I have no doubt that this crazy stunt had a dramatic affect on the size of his hats (how much money people gave him).
  • This stunt will have raised awareness of Rob worldwide making it much easier for him to get invited to other busking festivals get booked for international performances etc.
  • He has also maximised the leverage by sending out this eye catching email to all his clients and people on his email list....He got me talking about it so I’m sure it impressed some other people was well.
  • He utilised the power of HTML emailing to full affect.
  • Rob (and Louise who works for him), take a proactive and positive angle on marketing and selling Rob’s act. From something easy like buying my eBook to  something massive like doing crazy stunts over the Niagara Falls, by investing in his act and his career Rob is creating great levels of success for himself....Impressive stuff!

How can this help you?

  • You can be inspired by this great piece of marketing.
  • Maybe there are some cool ideas you can think of that will get you some great publicity?
  • You can learn to maximise any publicity you get, spreading the word through, your email contacts, Facebook, YouTube etc.

If you want to learn more about sending out branded emails then first of all checkout my eBook, I go into this in great detail. Secondly check out this link to Aweber, I use them for my entire How to Sell Your Act newsletters and have no hesitation in recommending them to you...Check it out here – Aweber branded emails.

That’s it for this post.

Rob & Louise make a great team and I'm sure they will come up with even more ideas to get exposure. I need to get my thinking cap on (www.rebeccanewman.net) as my publicity so far comes mainly from my charity fundraising if it's not directly music related. Rob posted this on his Facebook page but I'm glad I found this site, I may well get the book!! Rebecca, soprano, York

    Hi Rebecca,

    Thanks for the blog comment.

If you aren't sure about buying the book I recommend signing up for the free newsletter. I put tons of great stuff in there and if you like it you can then decide if buying the book makes sense.

You can also check out my performance website (just Google fire jugglers and then go to the Juggling Inferno website for ideas).

Good luck with it all and feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

  • My unofficial business motto is "No more starving artists!" and "How to Sell Your Act" has been a huge help. The book is an absolutely indispensable guide to the business side of doing what you love. I recommend it to everyone I know - not just entertainers, but to other folks with creatively-minded businesses as well. I am in the process of applying much of Tim's internet marketing expertise to my own website and am excited to see where it leads!
